ABOUT THIS ARTWORK:
Safe Place explores a quieter side of protection. A girl’s face rests at the surface of dark water, surrounded by blackberry vines, while the second panel opens into a deep, quiet void.
Blackberries appear here as a small personal symbol of protection. I have always loved the blackberry plant despite its thorns. The fruit suggests nourishment and shelter, while the thorns offer their own sharp form of protection.
