The text on the canvas repeats and fractures that question: Where is your safety? What is it? Is it? Are you sure? It mirrors the way our thoughts circle when we take stock of our circumstances and search for something steady to stand on.
The words are an excerpt from a short story written with Kate Horowitz called Witch Post. In the story, strange omens in the world prompt a quiet inner reckoning and a search for solid ground.
I painted it to feel like both a sign and a riddle. Something you might encounter on a late night walk when the world feels a little heightened and mysterious. Or something that appears when life shifts unexpectedly and you find yourself pausing to orient again.
